JOB SUMMARY 1. Action verb(s): HOW function is performed. The Six Sigma Black Belt will help identify problems in a process, then guides project work to address those problems. The Black Belt provides overall leadership and management for improvement projects as identified by the champion and the business. This role entails expert statistical and technical knowledge accompanied with skills in building and maintaining a high performance team, change management and project management. Black belts are respected throughout the organization they support as capable of getting things done well. They have a proven record of being able to juggle several projects simultaneously to completion. Black belts are patient, persuasive, imaginative, and creative out-of-the-box thinkers. They possess a very strong "can do" spirit and sense of urgency. Black Belts also act decisively when under pressure. They anticipate problems early and confront them. They must sustain high levels of energy and focus. They understand the "big picture" of the business and understand the "bottom line." They can speak the language of management (time, money, org. dynamics, etc.) and are more concerned about business success than personal gain. Black Belts possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and are able to inspire others and tactfully disagree. 2. Function: WHAT activity, function, area, department, process is affected by your action. (Be specific) Greater China Service Enterprise Unit (SEU) Six Sigma Black Belts work with the SEU and company Businesses to lead key projects in support of strategic improvement goals. Black Belts are also responsible for teaching tools and techniques to Six Sigma Green Belts and provide coaching. Six Sigma Black Belts demonstrate the following qualifications: planning and organization, facilitation and change management, process oriented, analytical thinking, project management, results driven, listening, negotiating, interpersonal relationships, networking problem solving, team player, assertiveness, and customer focused. 3. End result: WHY function is performed. Six Sigma Black Belts lead key projects and train and coach Green Belts to meet quantifiable business objectives. II. QUANTITATIVE DATA Six Sigma Black Belts reduce Non-Value Added activities, identify and execute cost saving opportunities, and grow the company. There are currently over 600 active global projects and over 800 projects have been completed contributing to 57.7 million USD in growth and 41.7 million USD in cost savings. There have been 8,783 training activities to date and company has 64 full time Black Belts. Projects led by Black Belts are typically $150,000 to $250,000 USD in annualized impact or possible cost savings. Black belts typically complete three to five projects annually IV. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Role models Six Sigma methodologies in all aspects of work, and leads the team by focusing on DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control). • Ensures regular, timely, accurate communications are provided to the champion regarding the progress, success and problems facing the project being led. • Ensures an adequate learning and development program is provided for green belts and others supporting the selected project team. • Teaches tools and techniques to green belts and provides coaching. • Cultivates a network of Six Sigma individuals within and outside the company. • Actively participates in the "Community of Practice" of Black Belts, actively sharing "best practices" and learnings. • Works with the project sponsor to define a scope and charter for proposed projects so adequate evaluation can be done and the champion can set priorities. • Ensures adequate timelines are determined for managing the project. • Defines the expected outcome of the project and works to ensure this is reached and sustained. • Tracks the project after completion to insure root causes have been addressed, and the problem resolved. • Ensures financial methodologies are used for the consistent evaluation of projects and the tracking of their success. • Ensures a "calendar" is developed for the progress of the project and that these milestones are adhered to. • Seeks the advice and counsel of the master black belt regarding problems with team leadership, statistical techniques, change management, or project leadership. • Identifies and shares opportunities through partnerships with other organizations. • Stimulates management by posing new ways of doing things, challenging existing paradigms, and presenting new methodologies. • Translates intention into reality. • Helps clarify an organization's purpose. • Takes responsibility for achieving financial targets set. • Quickly and accurately identifies bottlenecks and barriers to project progress. • Aggressively pursues reward and recognition for significant accomplishment for the Six Sigma Project Team Members, and for others supporting the project team.
